Operations Risk Management

Program: English Session
Language: English

Faculty:
Luis Fernando Neri

In this course, a framework for anticipating and managing risk in microfinance institutions will be presented with a particular emphasis on new product development. The discussion is tailored to managers with little or no experience in Risk Management and that find themselves actively setting parameters and guidelines for managing risk. The course is based on MicroSave´s Risk Management toolkit.

There are two parts to this course. Part I lays out a general framework for identifying, assessing, mitigating and monitoring risk in the MFI or bank as a whole. We will discuss the inter-relatedness of risks and the need for a comprehensive approach to managing them by effectively establishing a comprehensive risk management control structure in the financial institution.

Part II focuses on risks inherent to new product development and suggests tools to help manage the process. There will be a special emphasis on the risk analysis of products developed for agriculture microfinance.
