This course provides a highly interactive opportunity to explore the considerations that are likely to shape the nature and terms of debt financings that a microfinance institution may seek. Participants in this course also will participate in a mock debt negotiation, analyze the impact of loan covenants on the day-to-day operations of a microfinance institution, explore strategies for managing multiple lenders, consider the impact of outstanding loan obligations on future transformations (from NGOs to for-profit entities), review the pros and cons of partner/agent partnerships and loan securitizations, and evaluate debt restructuring options in the event that a microfinance institution runs into financial or operational problems.
