Sahar Tieby is currently working as the Microfinance Specialist at the Enterprise, Microfinance and Local Development Department of the ITC ILO in Turin, Italy.  She has over 20 years of experience working in the Middle East and North African region in the sustainable development arena, of which the last 14 years have been dedicated to the development of the microfinance industry.  She has extensive experience in designing microfinance services and streamlining the management of institutions’ operations.  She is an accredited Trainer of Trainers for microfinance courses for practitioners and donor agencies.   Before joining the ITC ILO in 2009, she worked with several microfinance initiatives, mainly in the Middle East, Africa, Central and South East Asia.  The organizations include UNICEF, World Bank, CGAP, IFAD, ILO, CHF, Chemonics and Bearing Point.

She has also served on the policy team of CGAPs’ MENA Hub Office and conducted a review of the policy constraints and diagnostics for selected countries including Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
Other activities focused on capacity building and advocacy for microfinance initiatives in conflict zones and transitional economies in Sudan, Iraq and Afghanistan.  Over the last few years, her main activities have been in collaboration with the ITC ILO with a specific focus on the center’s Making Microfinance Work course (MMW) curriculum and its certification process in MENA region, Asia and Africa.  Tieby also serves as a faculty member at the ITC ILO Summer Academy since its inception in 2008.
