Course Objectives.
The class will be a combination of lecture, class discussion and presentations, emphasizing lessons and experience not generally accessible from the literature.
The course will cover issues relating to core information systems (i.e. building versus buying an MIS, effective project management, funding technology, etc.), delivery technologies (experience with ATMs, smart cards and hand-held devices, measuring returns on investment, etc.), and cutting-edge applications of technology (i.e. cash-less microfinance, appropriate regulatory environment, etc.). Throughout, core principles of technology and project management will be highlighted.
This course has two objectives. First, to ensure that participants have the tools and understanding needed to help their organizations use technology effectively. Second, to make participants familiar with more advanced applications of technology in microfinance, such as for delivery channels and loan processing.
