ARIES, Afghanistan
Joyce B Lehman, CPA (US) is the Chief of Party on a USAID-funded rural finance project in Afghanistan known as ARIES (Agriculture, Rural Investment & Enterprise Strengthening).
It is her third year in Kabul, having previous worked as Chief Operating Officer of MISFA, the Microfinance Investment Support Facility for Afghanistan. A World Bank project, MISFA was started in 2003 to establish and support a microfinance sector in Afghanistan by selecting and funding implementing partners committed to creating sustainable microfinance institutions. ARIES is working with MISFA partner MFIs and other non-bank financial institutions in Afghanistan to expand financial services to rural areas.
Prior to joining MISFA, Joyce was a Senior Microfinance Consultant with MEDA, a North American NGO founded in 1953. During her time with MEDA, Joyce presented workshops and consulted with MFIs in the areas of financial accounting and management, business and strategic planning, review of internal control systems and the internal audit function. Joyce has also worked in the private sector as an accountant and taught university level business courses. She is a resident of Washington DC.
