Description

Douglas Pearce is head of the Financial Sector Team, Department for International Development (DFID). Leads DFID’s work on access to finance and remittances. Chairs the Steering Committee of FIRST (Financial Sector Reform and Strengthening Initiative), a global technical assistance fund. Has over 11 years experience in microfinance, rural and agricultural finance, agricultural marketing, post-conflict interventions, private sector development and financial sector policy.

Prior to joining DFID was a Senior Microfinance Specialist with CGAP, where among other responsibilities he developed and led innovative work on agricultural finance. Previously was a leading member of the Markets, Finance and Enterprise team at the Natural Resources Institute, UK. Field experience includes setting-up and managing a successful microfinance institution in Bosnia and managing an IDB-funded national credit union program in Bolivia. Has worked extensively in Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia.
