Mark Schreiner, is Senior Scholar at the Center for Social Development at Washington University in Saint Louis where he studies ways to help the poor to build assets through savings and loans. In wealthy countries, his studies development-based welfare policy, especially saving by the poor. With Michael Sherraden, he wrote Can the Poor Save? Saving and Asset Accumulation in Individual Development Accounts. In poor countries, Dr. Schreiner is Director of Microfinance Risk Management, L.L.C., a firm specialized in scoring for microfinance (http://www.microfinance.com). He built the first credit-risk scorecard for microfinance, and also builds poverty scorecards.
