Description

Glenn Westley is Senior Advisor for Microenterprise at the Inter-American Development Bank. In his 30 years at the IDB, he has held a number of positions, including Acting Division Chief of the Development Policy Research Division and Senior Economist in the Office of the Chief Economist. He has contributed to the design of over 100 projects in his career with the IDB, especially in the area of microfinance, where he has worked since the early 1990s.

Glenn received a PhD in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and has published numerous books, articles, and monographs in the area of microfinance, including his recent monograph, "Strategies and Structures for Commercial Banks in Microfinance" together with the abridged version "Commercial Banks in Microfinance: Best Practices and Guidelines for Project Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation".

In addition, Glenn is co-author, with Tor Jansson and Ramón Rosales, of the book, "Principles and Practices for Regulating and Supervising Microfinance".

He is co-editor, with Brian Branch, of the book "Safe Money: Building Effective Credit Unions in Latin America", which discusses the major challenges facing the credit union movement in Latin America today.
