Massimo Pera


Massimo Pera works as an Agribusiness Finance Officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. He is the coordinator of AgrInvest, an initiative aiming at facilitating SDG-compliant private investments into food systems. For the past 13 years, Mr. Pera has gained experience in the design and implementation of agricultural and rural finance programs in developing countries mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa (Sierra Leone, Guinea, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Cape Verde, Malawi, Ivory Coast), Latin America and the Caribbean (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Jamaica, Grenada), North Africa and Middle East (Morocco, Palestinian territories) and Pacific Islands (Samoa, Cook Islands). His assignment with FAO started in the Viet Nam office, where he worked for two years managing projects on agricultural value chain development and access to financial services for smallholder farmers. He also worked in the FAO Headquarters as an agricultural finance officer in charge of project formulation, backstopping and technical assistance to field operations on agricultural finance and investments, as well as policy and normative work, including training and capacity development. Prior to joining FAO, he worked as a rural finance consultant at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Mr. Pera holds an M.A. in Development Economics and International Cooperation from the Tor Vergata University of Rome.
