Since 2014, Fernando Fernández has been the General Director of Pro Mujer México, and since 2013, President of Fernández & Asociados, a consulting company specialized in development and financial inclusion. For over 12 years, he directed Development Alternatives Inc's (DAI) and USAID's primary microfinance and financial inclusion projects in México and Ecuador, namely the Access to Rural Finance for the Microenterprise (AFIRMA) Project  of USAID/México (2004-2009) and the Strengthening Access to Microfinance and Liberalization Task Order (SALTO) of USAID/Ecuador (2001-2004).

Fernando has led strengthening projects in more than 60 microfinance institutions in México and Ecuador, as well as supporting activities to stimulate the improvement of the financial sector environment, in coordination with the Banking authorities (CNBV), the Secretariat of the Economy, and other public agencies in Mexico; and with three main Commercial Banks and Ecuador's Superintendency of Banks and Insurance. For many years, he has played an important role in the promotion of social, economic, and financial incliusion in the Latin American Region, in arenas such as regulatory reform, risk management, product and process innovation, and strengthening of institutions, including banks as well as working class and microfinance institutions. His broad experience spans design, implementation, montioring, evaluation, management of companies and projects of differing character, complexity, and size.  Fernando has experience in México, Colombia, Guatemala, Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Perú. He has been a speaker in Sector events such as FOROMIC, the Annual Meetings of the Mexican Secretariat of the Economy and International Forums in the region, in Spain, and in the United States.
