Ligia Castro-Monge

Ligia M. Castro-Monge has 30 years of experience in the fields of finance and economics, and more specifically in the area of financial intermediary regulation, and microfinance risk analysis and management. She holds a Master's Degree in Economics from the University of Chicago, USA. Since 2000, she has carried out consultancy assignments for several organizations (the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, Calmeadow, Appui au Développement Autonomme a.s.b.l., Development Alternatives Inc., Mennonite Economic Development Associates, etc.). Ms. Castro-Monge took part in the development and incorporation of methodologies for the diagnosis and management of external risks (business continuity plans and contingency plans), and for the financial and operational risk management in IMFs within the Basel II and Basel III regulation framework. She has worked closely with MFIs in Latin America and the Caribbean, and more recently in West Africa and Asia. She also works with many organizations as a trainer and coach in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Luxembourg. Ms. Castro-Monge is an active member of the technical working group of RIM (Risk Management Initiative for Microfinance).
