Finance in Motion
Klaus Maurer has worked in finance for the past 30 years in 42 countries, with particular focus on microfinance, rural and agricultural finance. Most of his professional career he worked as an independent consultant and trainer for multilateral and bilateral development organizations, primarily in Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). For many years, he advised rural and agricultural banks as well as microfinance institutions engaged in rural areas. He has designed and conducted numerous training programs in rural finance and has held teaching assignments at academies and universities.
Currently, he is Chairman of the Board of Finance in Motion (FiM), an alternative fund management company based in Frankfurt/Germany. FiM advises and manages microfinance investment funds with a significant share in rural and agricultural finance. Until recently, he has been the fund manager of the SANAD Fund for the development of MSME in the Middle East and North Africa, and previously the Chief Investment Officer of the European Fund for Southeast Europe (EFSE) as a flagship fund in micro and small enterprise finance in Eastern Europe. Prior to that, he worked as project manager at KfW Development Bank and later served GIZ as microfinance advisor to the Central Bank of Indonesia. He holds a doctorate in Financial Economics from the Free University Berlin.
