Michael De Groot
Rabobank Rural Fund
Michaël de Groot is one of the founding members of Rabobank’s Rural Fund. Rabobank is largest co-operative bank in the Netherlands. He is fund manager as per January 2012. Michaël has close to 20 years of banking and financial sector experience in Latin America, Africa and Asia. He was region manager Latin America at Rabobank Foundation, a Foundation that focuses on technical assistance and lending to co-operative microfinance institutions (2004-2011). Prior to that, he was working for Africa and Asia departments (1995 – 2003). From 1993 to 1994 Michaël worked with the Dutch development program in Gedaref, Sudan to start an Islamic based community banking scheme. Michaël has a degree from the Vrije University Amsterdam and studied in Maastricht and Cologne.
He was management trainee at NMB Bank (now ING) and later on working at the International Division of ING from 1988 until 1991.
