World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU)
David Richardson is the Corporate Vice president and Financial Manager of the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU). Currently, he is responsible for the design and execution of corporate financial and accounting strategies, and he is in charge of meeting the financial goals of the company. Mr Richardson is one of the main spokespeople of WOCCU regarding technical matters related to the development and financial performance of credit unions. He played an important part in the design of a new commercial model for Credit Unions, and was the founder of the Monitoring System, PERLAS, that is still used by numerous Credit Unions worldwide. He has worked in WOCCU since 1987.
Before working in the cooperative sector, Mr. Richardson worked in the Agricultural Finance organization, MONY, in New-York, for 9 years, where he was administrating an agricultural loan portfolio of $200 million dollars. He has extensive experience in the commercial and cooperative sectors which has provided him with an interesting perspective on effective and efficient administration of a Microfinance Institution in its company management. As a consequence of having worked in 56 countries of Latin America, Eastern Europe, Africa, and Asia, he has a broad and deep understanding of the microfinance sector. In addition, he has published numerous articles on the role and impact of credit unions as Microfinance Institutions.
