Juan Buchenau is Senior Financial Sector Specialist at the World Bank (WB); member of the agrifinance global team working on agrifinance policy diagnostics and design and leader of WB’s Community of Practice on Cooperative Financial Institutions. Formerly, he was in charge of several programs dedicated to improving access to finance in Latin America and the Caribbean. Prior to joining the World Bank, Mr. Buchenau was the Executive Vice President of an American microfinance institution serving immigrants and their families abroad. He also has worked as lead advisor of the German consulting firm IPC/Procredit, helping microfinance banks in Latin America, Africa and Eastern Europe expand their services for small farmers and MSMEs. Earlier in his career, he coordinated a program for several years to support a multi-purpose small farmers’ cooperative in Mexico. Mr. Buchenau has an MSc from University of Hohenheim (Germany).
